  • The coin’s mintage year is randomly chosen and determined by stock. Made from .9999 or .999 fine gold with a weight of 1 troy ounce.
  • Individually sold in protective plastic flips or plastic tubes of 10.
  • Obverse: Features the profile picture of Queen Elizabeth II according to the years of issue: the design of Arnold Machin for 1982-1989 coins, of Dora de Pédery-Hunt for 1990-2002 coins, and of Susanna Blunt for coins produced from 2003). The portrait of Her Majesty also includes, at the bottom, the initials of the artist, encircled by the engravings “50 Dollars”, “Elizabeth II” and the year of mintage.
  • Reverse: Depicts a single, large, and extremely detailed maple leaf, encircled by the word “Canada” and the purity and weight marks. Starting from 2014 the reverse side of the coin also contains the micro-engraved laser maple leaf, the new bullion security enhancement from RCM, revealing the last two digits of the year of issue. The editions starting with 2015 also display the radially lined background.
